Buying
a used car
by Jason Lin
If you purchase a used car you have less rights than buying
a new car. However there are ways to protect yourself from buying
the wrong automoblie. |
Independent
inpection
If you have the right to have a independent inpection on the car. Have
your trusted mechanic inspect the car for you before you purchase it.
Dealer's cannot reject this, if they do they are hiding something.
If problems
found
If you find any problems with the car, the dealer has the right to lower
the price or fix the problems. If the problems are too major you have
the right to reject the offer. In some cases, the dealer will claim that
the car just had a major part done. Ask for receipts, that's one good
way to be sure if the dealer is telling the truth or not.
Different types
of warranties
A dealer must have a sticker with the warranty on it. No all used cars
come with warranties, if this is the case the dealer must have a sticker
claiming the car comes "as is" with no warranty. If he presents
a warranty for the car then he must state whether if its limited or full
warranty. Make sure to read the warranty to see what parts are covered.
That way if there's a problem after you purchase it, the dealer must pay
it if its not covered in your warranty. So be sure to keep that warranty
and don't lose it. Your dealer may offer a optional warranty, but don't
bother with these. They often cover parts that are worthless or hardly
go bad. Its just another attempt to charge you extra for parts that are
in good shape.
